Wk07/08: Learning Journal Summary





Wow week 8 already? This class went by pretty fast. I know that this journal shouldn’t be negative but Android Studio is actively draining my sanity with Project 02. It’s just a terrible program and creates new issues for me every day I open it to work on the project. With that out of the way let’s look back to Jotto. I think my approach would be similar but the work would go by faster since I know what I’m doing with Java now. Read the prompt, reread the prompt, then start coding.


Two victories… I think that HW02 and Project 01 were my two victories. Things have been going downhill since I had to start using Android Studio and I miss the simpler days of IntelliJ IDEA where things mostly worked. I think I learned the most from those two assignments and I’m happy with how they turned out. Those two assignments also felt especially rewarding when I would finish implementing a new method and watch the unit test pass on the first try most of the time or after putting in the extra effort to make the outputs look the same as the example. I’m a lot more comfortable with Java as a whole now as well as UML diagrams and classes. I hope I’ll be able to say the same about using the Android libraries in the future because they are not fun to work with.

CST370: Journal Entry Week 3

Week 3 is ending already! We learned about brute-force string matching as well as depth and breadth-first search algorithms. I was already familiar with the divide and conquer algorithm design, but it was still good to read more about it. The homework this week was torture. The first program about Depth-First Search took me forever to do and I found the instructions to be confusing. The hint really saved me on that one. The second program was easier in the way that we just needed to use brute force over more complicated algorithms. Anyways that’s all for now. The midterm is coming up soon and I hope I’m prepared for it.

CST311: Journal Entry Week 7

We covered chapter 6 of the textbook which was about link layers, but that was overshadowed by the much bigger thing this week, the final exam. One difference I noticed between the midterm and the final was that the midterm had much more overlap with the pre-midterm questions than the final had with the pre-final. That didn’t turn out to be much of an issue since I still scored pretty well in the end. This class is basically over now. I’m not bothering with any more extra credit work since it won’t make a meaningful difference to my grade since I already have an A. There’s just the programming assignment 4, and chapter 8.9 quiz, and the week 8 journal, which I probably won’t have much to say in since I’ll have to turn that in within 4 days from the date this one is published. That’s all for now.
